3DSmax.exe Application Error (0xc0000005) Solution

Problem: 3DSmax.exe crashs during start up.

Causing Dialog: Application Error The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application.

Solution:In my case, this error with 3D Studio Max is caused by a conflict with the 3D Studio Max splash screen. It is solved by carrying out the following steps:

  • Right-click the My Computer icon, and then click Properties.
  • In the System Properties dialog box, Advanced tab, click Choose Environment Variables.
  • In the User Variables For section, click New.
  • Enter NO_3DSMAX_SPLASHSCREEN in both the Variable Name and Variable Value fields.
  • Click OK to close each dialog box.
  • Reboot your computer.
